Abstract:
The study assessed the current state and prospects of development of small hydro power in Ukraine. It has been established that the main motivating factor increasing the number of small hydro facilities is a guaranteed purchase power generated by their energy based on the "green" tariff. It has been defined the environmental risks and possible negative consequences of the construction of small hydropower plants. Their classification by factors has been conducted. It has been proven that a comprehensive assessment and consideration of environmental risks should be a prerequisite for the construction decisions of small hydro power facilities, and most decisions should be taken only with the participation and agreement of all stakeholders (local communities, government authorities, investors, environmental organizations, etc.) and comply with the basic principles of sustainable development.
