Abstract:
This paper examines whether the 1990 Budget was consistent with the major Malaysian economic policies. The budget was not specific at fulfilling short term economic and political interests, but it was found to be consistent with the broad economic policies, especially those adopted in the 1980s. The strategies of the Budget reflect a slight shift in approach which constitutes a synthesis of strategies in the 1970s and 1960s. Two major trends re observed: a reduction in direct role of public sector in the economy and a preoccupation with the problem of inflation.
