Foreign Firms In Penang’s Industrial Transformation
Rajah Rasiah
Jurnal Ekonomi Malaysia, 1991, vol. 23, issue December, 91-117
Abstract:
This paper attempts to examine the impact of foreign manufacturing investment in Penang’s economic growth and structural change. It was found that despite the increasing trend of manufacturing growth, intersectoral interdependence was weak. Hence government polities directed towards the strengthening of intersectoral interdependence as well as a broader based domestic industry were suggested. In addition, dynamic restructuring leading t0 a greater emphasis on skills training and development were also recommended.
