Abstract: This article examines international trade of the proposed EAEC in a global context. Analysis of the EAEC in terms of output, volume of trade, volume of intra-regional and inter-regional trade and the commodity structure of trade of member countries is presented. Comparisons are also made between the EAEC and the emerging North American Free Trade Area. The article also examines some of the policy implications with respect to EAEC trade especially the role of Japan and the non-ASEAN countries in promoting the EAEC.
