Abstract:
In and out migration to the destination areas is the main factor contributing to the economic growth of states. The number of internal migration in states will increase as a result of pull migration factor to the destination areas. Thus, the objective of this study is to determine the effect of macro factors with in-migration of some states in Malaysia. Using panel data for northern region (Kedah, Pulau Pinang and Perlis) and western region (Perak Selangor and Kuala Lumpur) from year 1980 to 2012, the study found the positive relationship in long run between in-migration and domestic investment for Pulau Pinang which is under NCER (northern zone). In contrast, Kuala Lumpur has a positive relationship between in-migration and foreign investment.
