Abstract:
Based on the data collected in the II survey of household budgets of 1997, this paper presents a description of the main relationship among the different qualitative variables by means of the correspondence analysis methodology. It also shows the application of the multivariable statistic technique as a tool to determine the main social and economic characteristics of Venezuelan families. The empirical results show that the factors generated by the correspondence analysis serve to describe the quality of life of Venezuelan homes; in other words, these results present evidence of the social and economic conditions and the recognition of patterns of life quality amongst Venezuelan families. Finally, this study could also contribute by serving as a base for the construction of new poverty indicators for Venezuela.
