Abstract:
This paper presents an analysis of the facts related to domestic violence, focusing on the social stratum to which the interviewees belong to. This is a report of cases of violence within the family in victims and offenders who came to the Forensic Center in the City of Merida during 2004. Empirical results show that out of 60 interviewed cases 83,33% correspond to victims and the remaining 16,67% corresponds to offenders. The multiple correspondence factor analysis shows that the most violent Marginal and Labour strata are opposed to the least violent Middle High and Middle Low strata. The findings suggest that domestic violence is a social and cultural problem, characterized by economic poverty and low educational levels.
