Contingent valuation and choice experiments applied to the Sierra Nevada National Park in Venezuela

Abstract: In this work, I applied contingent valuation and choice experiments to verify their consistency for the estimated parameters. To accomplish this goal, the following attributes of the Sierra Nevada National Park were considered: hunting rate of the Andean bear, use of banned pesticides, rate of deforestation of the southern slope and the demand access to the Merida cable car. Gender and age, among others, were used as social and economic variables. The signs of the estimated parameters coincided with the expected results except for the age parameter in the choice experiment sample. The hypothesis of parameter equality under both techniques was rejected implying that the two models are not consistent in terms of the estimated parameters.
