Abstract:
Poverty in Ecuador stems from a long tradition that socially excludes certain population groups. The conceptualization of poverty is broad and covers a number of edges that often are both cause and effect of living in that condition. The methodology of Alkire and Foster is a methodological tool that allows a better understanding of poverty. In Ecuador, the multidimensional poverty has experienced significant reductions in the period 2008-2015 being Afro-Ecuadorian populations and rural areas that have benefited most from this reduction. The privations that make up the index related to the labor market are the ones that have contributed to the incidence of poverty during the period.
