Abstract:
This paper analyzes multidimensional poverty in Ecuador, focusing on the weighting of the dimensions that make it up. It is done a sensitivity analysis of the Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) before the change of weights used for the calculation. The methodology used is the one proposed by Alkire and Foster (2007) but using three types of weights; the fair weight, the weighting based on the frequency of data and a normative weighting. The results show that the MPI is highly sensitive to the change in weightings, but the poverty ranking by provinces is not modified, that is, regardless of the type of weighting, the poorest provinces are Pastaza, Orellana and Morona Santiago. The least poor are Galápagos, Pichincha and Guayas.
