Abstract: In this article the objective was to conceptualize border territorial development, based on a documentary review and systematization of authors, following the methodology of Garcés and Duque (2007), adjusted to the characteristics of this work. The results indicate that historical changes have modified the way of conceiving these areas, no longer as an orthodox and homogeneous representation but as conditioned by multiple factors that constantly evolve. In this research, border territorial development is conceived as a process that must generate social, economic, environmental, political and institutional transformations, based on culture, the collective imaginary of the residents, their particularities and with public policies that correspond to these spaces.
