Estudios Economicos, 2010, vol. 027 (Nueva Serie), issue 54, 67-94

Abstract: The notion of social capital and its possibilities of contributing to the economic and social development are included into a new debate in the field of development, which is looking for incorporated further dimensions and reappraised aspects not-included into the conventional economic thinking. This paper proposes to analyze the impact of social capital into the economic performance of Argentina for the period 1996-2007 using an econometric model of linear regression base on time-series data. The results suggest that the participation in associations (measured thought cooperatives and benefit societies) are a relevant variable to explain the Argentine economic growth
