Abstract:
The present work intends to analyze, from the perspective of the economics of technology, the effect that the implementation of the "freeware" and "open source" programs can have on the real economy. This analysis crosses transversally to the discussion of Intellectual Property Rights. It is clear that software development can bring great advantages to the economy, and that it can be distributed practically with marginal cost equal to zero. But the developers deserve their just retribution for the work done. How to face this problem in a world so rapidly changing?
