Learning to export with neigbors: the effect of information over flow between south american countries

Abstract: This paper aimed to study how the learning of neighboring countries about ex-ports affects the decision to enter new exporters in the foreign market. The main contribution is to analyze learning about the export of different products to dif-ferent countries, considering all export destinations of selected countries in South America, in the period 2000 to 2018. A Linear Probability Model and a set of fixed effects were used in order to control for unobserved determinants of export dynamics. We find that the probability of both entry and survival to a new market increase with the presence of neighboring countries that serve that same market
