Abstract:
Last May, at the age of 88, Axel Leijonhufvud passed away. Axel (everyone who knew him called him that) was a macroeconomist with a special theoretical thinking and mode of reasoning, who devoted the majority of his work to the exploration of a crucial issue for macroeconomic analysis and policy management: The nature, scope and limitations of the endogenous self-adjustment mechanisms of economic systems, evoking Smithian "invisible hand"
