Abstract:
In the current debate over the EU’s political crisis the concept of “European identity” has taken the centre stage. By evoking a sentiment, supported by a common history, of “we the Europeans” the ties between EU institutions and the citizen are supposed to be strengthened and conflicts of interest among the member states overcome.
