Abstract: In modern conditions, digital innovations co- created with the consumer, are particularly relevant for local government, as well as opportunities for establishment of living labs as specific ecosystems for open innovation. The subject of this article is the Living Lab approach, analyzed as a tool for local development policies. Studies reflecting different aspects of the living lab approach, have been systematized. The epistemological approach has been adopted and an author's point of view for living labs is drawn. On this basis, good practices for living labs have been explored, which are analyzed from the standpoint of their local development. Conclusions and recommendations have been formulated for the application of the Living Labs approach to local development policies.
