Abstract: The main aim of present study is to consider the advantages and disadvantages of containers as a major transport unit in maritime transport and to outline the current dimensions of international container transport, on the basis of which to draw conclusions about their development. In order to achieve this objective, a theoretical overview of the advantages and disadvantages of containers as the main transport unit in maritime transport has been carried out, in a dynamic plan are studied data measuring the main parameters of international container transport and trends in their development have been uncovered. On this basis, conclusions are formulated regarding the development of international container transport during the observed period.
