Abstract: The resource allocation is related to the desire to ensure efficiency and equality in the provision of medical care. The aim of this study is to present the guiding principles and to analyze the existing models in the distribution of healthcare resources. Different models are used in the health systems of the countries. In general, three types of models can be summarized: based on data for small territorial units; based on data on individual service use and demographic data; and based on direct assessment of health needs. In these models, resources in the health systems are mainly distributed between regions in a given country and then between activities. The guiding principle is to ensure equality (in access to health services), assuming that it depends largely on the allocation of resources.
