Abstract: In the paper have been analyzed some basic problems dealing with the legal nature of charter parties as a type of international carriage of goods by sea contracts. A special attention has been paid to the types of charter parties and to the standard forms, their preferable using and necessity of their improvement. Finally, some general conclusions and proposals "de lege ferenda" have been made.
