Abstract: In connection with the adoption of Directive 2019/904 on the reduction of the environmental impact of certain plastic products, changes in legislation at national level are forthcoming. The main purpose of the regulated measures is to promote the circular economy by encouraging the use of reusable packaging and, where this is not applicable, by producing disposable packaging from recyclable materials. The purpose of this study is to analyze some aspects of the implementation of legislative changes in relation to pollution from packaging waste and the increased risk of cross-contamination of foods after the introduction of the changes.
