TOURISM UNDER PANDEMIC CONDITIONS: ANALYSIS, IDEAS AND MARKETING APPROACHES FOR RESTART

Abstract: Tourism is one of the main industries in Bulgarian economy. Its direct and indirect contribution to GDP is around 13%, including annual revenue. The sector is among the most affected by the ever-changing epidemiological situation in different countries, the number of people infected with COVID-19, the anti-epidemic measures ruled by governments and the uncertain situation in the future. The report compares the past five summer seasons in the active months of May-August, on the indicator "visits of foreigners to Bulgaria for the purpose of travel - vacation and excursion" and "Number of completed overnight stays of foreigners in the places of accommodation in Bulgaria". Conclusions have been drawn and some ideas and measures for restarting Bulgarian tourism with marketing approaches in the conditions of global and unprecedented crisis, are indicated.
