Abstract: The scientific report analyzes and discusses the growing importance of transnational cultural routes as a tool for building world identity. Research interest is focused on the advantages of cultural routes for tourist destinations. The focus is on transnational cultural routes as a new ethic of world heritage protection. The most important and recognized transnational, international cultural routes of indisputable world importance are highlighted. Emphasis is placed on cultural routes in Europe, as a shared cultural heritage. Some of the most important cultural routes for Bulgaria are listed. The author defends the thesis that transnational cultural routes play an essential role in maintaining shared world values, cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue.
