AGRIBUSINESS AND RURAL AREAS - ECONOMY, INNOVATION AND GROWTH 2021 CONFERENCE PROCEEDINGS, 2021, issue 1, 67-75

Abstract: Solving the problem of food security of the population is a challenge at national and global level. The main driving force in this initiative is agribusiness. The aim of the paper is to determine the national and global importance of agribusiness. To achieve it, the following tasks are formulated: a brief description of the leading agribusiness companies in Bulgaria and in the world; considering the possibilities for different types of associations in smaller companies; comparisons of the scale and orientation of agribusiness companies in Bulgaria and in the world. Based on a study of existing rankings for agribusiness companies, it was concluded that in Bulgaria there are small, medium and large successful companies. The most dynamic of them are mainly companies in the grain sector. The world's leading agribusiness companies are mainly European, and many of them are focused on sustainable development, feeding the population and reducing the harmful effects on the climate.
