Abstract: Mediation is a relatively new institute that is gradually finding application in many spheres of public life. One of its manifestations is for resolving conflicts that arise due to a committed crime. The current study is dedicated to researching of the legislation of several EU Member States (Belgium, the Czech Republic, Spain, The Netherlands, Poland and Romania), where it is possible to conduct mediation between the perpetrator of the criminal act and the victim, with a view to reaching an agreement, leading to conclusion of the criminal proceedings. Based on the analysis of the foreign regulatory framework, the author points out the most important features of the procedure in other countries, with a view to their consideration when introducing mediation in the Bulgarian criminal procedure.
