Abstract: In the middle of the third decade of the twenty-first century, humanity has a number of tasks to solve, related both to achieving economic growth in various countries, and to ensuring security and better living conditions. The creation of new varieties of plants and breeds of animals is an opportunity to improve yields and solve food problems in large parts of the world. On the other hand, in order to develop them, legal protection is applied in many countries around the world, which provides a faster return to the invested public or private organizations in the field of these new developments. In this regard, the main objective of the report is to establish some trends in the inventive activity related to the creation of new varieties of plants and breeds of animals in Bulgaria and, on this basis, to draw conclusions that are relevant for economic participants as well, as well as from a scientific point of view. The research is based on the systematic approach, analyzing data from the information arrays of the Patent Office of the Republic of Bulgaria for the period 2013-2023.
