Abstract: Currently, the digital transformation of business and the increased volumes of data require new and specific ways of organizing, managing and analysing data. Working with big data poses several challenges to analysts. Regarding this matter, the aim of the paper is to highlight the key skills needed for data science professionals, which this new and constantly evolving field requires. Technical skills are not the only important ones here, abilities such as analytical thinking and application of creativity, innovation, and inquisitiveness to the execution of work tasks are even more significant. The paper shows the main challenges data science experts face and how their skills are important for the transformation of business problems into working solutions with business value.
