Abstract: The aim of the present article is to outline the peculiarities and some of the applied opportunities of tourist cultural studies in connection with the topical trends in the development of social geography (above all the cultural rationalization of space). There are substantiated specific conditions for the application of the cultural - image approach. There are also drawn important methodological prerequisites for the drafting and analysis of civilization studies, in line with the contemporary need for tourist and geographical information.
