Business & Management Compass, 2011, issue 3, 65-79
Abstract:
In the article there are examined the alternative forms of taxation of the insurance business. Particular attention is paid to insurance premium tax, which has been part of the tax system in this country since the beginning of 2011. In that connection there are drawn the grounds for its introduction, as are presented the advantages and disadvantages of the tax and outlined specific measures for its future development. The principal argument in favour of the introduction of insurance tax premiums in Bulgaria is to increase the revenues in the state budget. In addition, the low tax rate is expected to create conditions for tax competition beneficial to the country. The greatest fears f or those in power is that there might appear some of the deforming effects of the tax on consumption. At this stage it is accepted well by insurers and their customers, causing no serious conflict situations.
