Abstract:
General economic theory is the basis, the foundation of economic knowledge, and its impact on practice makes it undoubtedly necessary in higher education. However, both its teaching and study are in a strange situation. The currently dominant neoliberal neoclassical economics is a theory, which (to a great extent) does not adequately reflect reality. Following the Great Recession from 2007-2009, for which neoclassicism has also "contributed", a slow and hesistant process of shifting away and overcoming its dominance has started around the world. What should we do in Bulgaria? How should the Bulgarian university economics education react to the current situation? The paper backs up the argument for exchange of dominance (irrespective of the dominant theory) for theoretical pluralism.
