Bulgaria in the Light of Geoeconomics and Eurozone Accession

Abstract: With geopolitical tensions rising over the past two decades, growing alongside China's economic power and intensifying exponentially since the start of the war in Ukraine, it is inevitable that we are once again turning to geoeconomics as an analytical framework for asking questions and finding answers to critical processes. Geoeconomics is known as the branch of research that investigates the connections between geopolitics and economics. The aim of this article is to shed light on geoeconomics and Bulgaria as a part of this global geopolitical picture. We will examine what geoeconomics is and what issues it addresses. Attention will be paid to instruments such as sanctions and embargoes. The geopolitics of international finance, currency dominance, and capital flows will also be considered. The recent accession of Bulgaria to the Eurozone also will be assessed as a part of geoeconomics analysis. Bulgaria has a serious capacity in the war economy context, and this will be potential leverage of geoeconomic influence in the year to come.
