Current dimension of the energy market in Bulgaria

Abstract: In the present work, the author aims to study the current state of the electricity market in Bulgaria during the period 2014 – 2024 and to outline opportunities for diversifying the supply of the energy market in the country, which he connects with renewable energy sources, such as wind, sun, biomass, etc. In the course of the study, indicators reporting the final energy consumption for the country, presented by sector, were tracked in dynamics, the changes occurring in terms of electricity prices for household customers were examined, and the share of renewable energy in the gross final energy consumption in Bulgaria. Based on the analytical actions carried out, the conclusion is reached that with regard to renewable energy sources, low levels of gross final energy consumption are reported, which is an indicator of relatively little interest in their exploitation, and this fact is in counterbalance with European policy in this area. This necessitates tracking the advantages and disadvantages of these energy sources, which are the future of energy security for consumers.
