Abstract:
This study reviews recent empirical studies (2018–2025) on gamification in Learning Management Systems (LMSs) to assess its impact on student engagement, learning outcomes, and its potential relevance for employee development. Using systematic semantic search and strict screening criteria, ten peer-reviewed studies were analyzed across diverse digital learning environments. Findings show that gamification reliably increases participation, motivation, and academic performance, particularly when integrated through points, badges, leaderboards, and progression mechanics. However, evidence for staff development remains scarce, revealing a significant research gap. The review highlights the need for theoretically informed designs and longitudinal studies that examine how LMS-based gamification may support skill transfer and long-term behavioral change in organizational settings.
