Abstract: The purpose of the paper is to examine in the light of theory the role of supply chain partisipants in the product category management and to identify opportunities for improving relationships between manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers. The results of an empirical study of the participants‘ perceptions of their functions in the process of creating product categories, conducted by the author, are summarized. The author support the idea that category management plays an essential role in coordinating the relationships between supply chain members in retail and wholesale procurement by focusing on joint efforts to achieve consumer satisfaction.
