Abstract:
Purpose of the article This work deals with both, the relations between the creativity and economic growth and the methodology's methods themselves, which are applicable for the detection of creative potential in the regions. At the beginning the function of the creativity is put to the historical context. In the next step the work presents the role of creativity within the economic development. The main goal of the article is to provide deep analysis of the methods that are suitable for determination of creative potential at selected territorial parts. The exploration of theoretical requirements and selected methodologies is implemented at the individual regions of Slovakia.Methodology/methods The work analyses two methods of creative potential detection in the territory. The first method is based on the former model of Richard Florida. Subsequently, this method is compared with the method of article' authors which is grounded in assessment of New Creative Index (NCI). With using of correlation coefficients and comparative analysis the individual hypothesis are verified. Scientific aim The aim of this comparison is the confirmation of basic theoretical assumptions from which the constriction of used methodologies comes. At the same time the work tries to analyse different outputs at individual methods in order to select the most convenient method for the creative potential analysis. Findings On the grounds of its data the work have proved that the outputs of both methods it is the same at the certain level despite the different construction. The creative centres reach the higher economic development and offer more vacancies, their inhabitants reach higher incomes. Simultaneously, the work has confirmed the better pertinence of the method working with NCI compared to the former creative index. Conclusions (limits, implications etc) On the other hand it is necessary to accept the limitations which can partly influence the realised outputs. The former creative index has to be partially modified because there are no relevant data to the original method. The other limitation is connected with the level of development of the Slovakia. The analysed data set was characterised just by one creative centre. Even though the work has proved the significant dependence between creative potential and selected macroeconomic indicators what confirms the basic theses justifying the contribution of creativity.
