Abstract: The problem of threats and benefits, as well as challenges and opportunities for the SME sector in the era of intensified globalization processes in the contemporary world is a vital issue and an area for scientific research. This publication characterizes the results of this sector enterprises activity in Poland in the years 2004-2007 and shows opportunities for their operation on the international arena through presenting. among others, their share in export sales and cooperation with overseas companies. The paper also presents relevant conclusions related to the development of enterprises in Poland, with special consideration given to the SME sector.
