Abstract: This article examines the life and scientific career of the prominent European educationalist and pedagogue Sergiusz Hessen. His pedagogical heritage is examined on the base of basic primary writing and archive sources prepared in different languages. We are trying to show the contribution of the Hessen`s activity in the research methodology of multicultural societies and education, his philosophy of education, teaching knowledge, as well as in the real process of university and school education.
