Abstract:
Even if the ambitious expansion targets for renewables are achieved, our simulation indicates that Germany will need around 100 GW of H2 power plants in 2045. Despite the enormous need, which politicians have not yet recognised, the expansion of H2-ready power plants is very sluggish. The pure energy-only-market concept is failing and urgently needs to be supplemented by additional incentives and capacity markets.
