Abstract:
The German healthcare system faces a diverse set of challenges including demographics, climate change and insufficient digitisation. The current healthcare reform involves a series of new legislation. The first focus is to overcome the overcapacity of hospitals and beds as well as economic disincentives in the inpatient sector. A second focus is to advance the integrated digitisation across health services. The current inpatient sector is overly quantity-driven, which among other things leads to increasing case numbers due to economic rather than purely medical imperatives. Digitsation legislation seeks to allow full use of electronic medical records. The important thing, however, is the swift implementation of reform.
