Abstract: Bis 1998 nähert sich das BIP-Wachstum wieder seinem mittelfristigen Trend, der Rückstand im internationalen Vergleich wird kleiner. Der Arbeitsmarkt bleibt insgesamt stabil, doch eröffnen sich weiterhin nur unzureichend neue Beschäftigungschancen. Wirtschaftspolitik und Finanzmärkte haben im Vorfeld der Europäischen Währungsunion eine kritische Phase zu überwinden.
