Abstract: Der Bundeshaushalt 1996 ist ein Zwischenschritt in der Budgetkonsolidierung. Im Vollzug konnte der geplante Abbau der Neuverschuldung erreicht werden. Sowohl die präliminierten Ausgaben als auch die erwarteten Einnahmen wurden genau realisiert. Der vorläufige Gebarungserfolg 1996 zeigt, daß die Ausgangsposition für 1997 realisiert ist. Allerdings zeigen sich bei einzelnen Ausgaben- und Einnahmenkomponenten Abweichungen, die mittelfristig den Bundeshaushalt belasten könnten.
