Abstract: Während die Exportkonjunktur 1998 ihren Höhepunkt erreichte, festigten sich auch Konsum und Investitionen. Damit wurde das regionale Gefälle der Wirtschaftsentwicklung deutlich verringert. Verbleibende Unterschiede sind strukturbedingt. Die Ergebnisse der Steiermark, Oberösterreichs, des Burgenlandes, Tirols und Vorarlbergs waren 1998 überdurchschnittlich, jene Salzburgs und Wiens etwas ungünstiger.
