Abstract: Die Beschleunigung des Wirtschaftswachstums im Burgenland im Gefolge der Ostöffnung kommt nicht allen Regionen und Gruppen von Arbeitskräften zugute. Im Mittel- und im Südburgenland sind wegen der starken Ausrichtung auf eine industriell-gewerbliche Produktion die negativen Effekte von Betriebsabsiedelung und Produktionsverlagerung am deutlichsten. Neben der Bildungs- und Strukturpolitik muss deshalb auch die Beschäftigungs- und Integrationspolitik neue Wege suchen, um die wirtschaftliche und soziale Belebung der Region zu fördern.
