Abstract: Neben dem Harmonisierten Verbraucherindex (HVPI) wird in Österreich auch ein nationaler Verbraucherpreisindex berechnet (VPI). Dieser unterscheidet sich vom HVPI nicht nur hinsichtlich des Erfassungsbereichs und der Gewichtung, sondern auch hinsichtlich der Methode der Durchschnittsbildung auf der untersten Ebene. Die im VPI angewandte Methode bewirkt im Vorjahresvergleich eine Überschätzung der Inflation um mindestens 0,1 Prozentpunkt.
