Abstract:
The study on the environment industry in Austria, based on primary statistics on the production of environmental goods and services, covers the core segments of the environment industry and comprises end-of-pipe technologies as well as essential parts of clean technologies and products. By including clean technologies in the survey, the study by the Austrian Institute of Economic Research goes beyond the scope of most international studies and thus should contribute to the international discussion regarding the classification of this sector. It describes the potential of environmental technologies in the Austrian economy and characterizes this segment of the economy by several indicators (size as measured by sales and employment, market structure, and innovation activity).
