Corporate Social Responsibility and Environmental Management, 2025, vol. 32, issue 5, 7068-7080

Abstract: Corporate social responsibility (CSR) significantly impacts employee well‐being (EW) by fostering a positive work environment, enhancing job satisfaction, and promoting a sense of purpose. However, an organizationally supportive culture augments sustainable performance (SP) by ingraining values of responsibility, sustainability, and ethics. This study attempts to uncover the correlation between CSR and SP with mediation of employee well‐being (EW) and moderation of organizational supportive culture (OC) by collecting data from the Chinese market, drawing on stakeholder theory. This study revealed interesting outcomes using the structural equation approach for path analysis using a sample of N = 741. First, the study uncovered a positive correlation between CSR and sustainable development, such as social, economic, and environmental development. Second, the study found mediation of EW along with moderation of organizational culture among the nexus of CSR and SP. This study endows multiple insights into CSR that can enhance sustainable development, where EW and organizational culture have positive forces to trigger SP. Besides, this study bears some shortcomings that should be acknowledged by future researchers to validate the current empirical findings with consideration of other regions worldwide.
