Securing the Backbone of Healthcare: Resilience in the Pharmaceutical Supply Chain

Abstract: The pharmaceutical supply chain is a cornerstone of the healthcare ecosystem, ensuring the availability of essential medical products that play a role in healthcare delivery. Since the COVID‐19 pandemic, recent crises, including the “tripledemic” and 2024 hurricanes, continue to reinforce the conversation around the resilience of the pharmaceutical supply chain. This article provides an overview of the lessons that have been learned about the pharmaceutical supply chain after being tested in a myriad of ways. The role of the pharmaceutical supply chain as critical infrastructure – all components therein – reinforces the vital role of the supply chain in the continuity of care. 医药供应链是医疗保健生态系统的基石, 确保“在医疗保健服务中发挥作用的基本医疗产品”的供应。自新冠肺炎大流行以来, 最近的危机 (包括“三重疫情”和2024年飓风) 继续加强关于医药供应链弹性的讨论。本文概述了在经过多种方式的测试后, 人们对医药供应链吸取了哪些教训。医药供应链作为关键基础设施 (及其所有组成部分) 的作用强化了供应链在护理连续性中的重要作用。 La cadena de suministro farmacéutica es una piedra angular del ecosistema de la atención sanitaria, ya que garantiza la disponibilidad de productos médicos esenciales que desempeñan un papel en la prestación de servicios de salud. Desde la pandemia de COVID‐19, las crisis recientes, incluida la “tripledemia” y los huracanes de 2024, continúan reforzando el debate sobre la resiliencia de la cadena de suministro farmacéutica. Este artículo ofrece una descripción general de las lecciones que se han aprendido sobre la cadena de suministro farmacéutica después de ponerla a prueba de diversas maneras. El papel de la cadena de suministro farmacéutica como infraestructura crítica (todos los componentes que la componen) refuerza el papel vital de la cadena de suministro en la continuidad de la atención.
