Historian's pasts and scenario planning: Commentary on Schoemaker 2020
David MacLaren McDonald
Futures & Foresight Science, 2020, vol. 2, issue 3-4
Abstract:
Schoemaker's paper makes a strong case for the adoption of historical methods and perspectives in the practice of scenario planning. The discipline's attention to complex causation, change processes, and continuity/change across time offers a balance and richness to scenarios, while its emphasis on narratives helps anticipate the range of views and expectations among participants in the planning process, enriching it in the process.
