Abstract: Paul Schoemaker's new book is essential reading in scenario planning. When I was asked by Edward Elgar Publishing to review an early version of the book, I agreed, was outfitted with the book, and, much to my surprise, I opened the book and finished it in one sitting. Admittedly that is what Elgar Advanced Introductions are designed to do: “offer concise and lucid surveys of substantive and policy issues associated with discrete subject areas,” in this case, scenario planning. Schoemaker delivers on the series aim “to pinpoint essential principles of a particular field, and to offer insights that stimulate critical thinking.”
