Agricultural development and the incidence of labour intensive farming: A theoretical analysis

Sajal Lahiri

Journal of International Development, 1991, vol. 3, issue 3, 229-235

Abstract: This paper attempts to explain the secular and rapid decline in labour‐intensive farming and the sharp increase in rural‐urban migration in LDCs in terms of unequal agricultural development. It is also shown that such development causes absolute rural poverty to rise and national income in a labour‐abundant economy to fall.
